Accessibility Statement

fixyfier.com and the Fixyfier app are meant to be usable by everyone, including people who are blind or have low vision, people with color blindness, people who use only a keyboard, and people with dyslexia, ADHD or other reading and attention difficulties. This page describes what is in place today, where the known gaps are, and how to report a problem.

On This Website

The Accessibility Sidebar

The round accessibility button at the bottom right of every page opens a sidebar that changes how the site looks and behaves for you. It can also be opened and closed from the keyboard with Shift + Ctrl + K, and reset with Shift + Ctrl + L. Your choices are remembered on your device.

• Accessibility profiles apply a set of adjustments in one click, for blindness, color blindness, visual impairment, motor impairment, cognitive disability, seizures and epilepsy, dyslexia and ADHD.
• Screen reader reads the page aloud, automatically or on demand, at a slow, medium or fast speed.
• Navigation tools offer a large black or white cursor and lists of the page's headings, landmarks and links to jump between.
• Reading tools offer enlarged tooltips, a reading guide that follows the pointer, and a reading mask that dims everything except the line you are reading.
• Text tools change the font (including a dyslexia-friendly font), text size, line height, letter spacing and text alignment.
• Graphics tools lower or raise color saturation, switch to inverted, dark or light contrast, and hide images.

The sidebar itself can be shown in 18 languages, made larger or smaller, moved to the left or right side, or hidden for a visit, a day or a week.

Keyboard and Structure

Skip links at the top of every page jump straight to the navigation, the main content or the footer. Pages are built with headings, so screen readers and the sidebar's heading list can move through them, and the site is designed to be used with a keyboard alone.

Languages

The language button in the header translates any page into 42 languages using machine translation. Machine translation helps, but it can be imperfect. The Windows VPN guide also has its own dedicated translation in 44 languages, chosen from the same button on that guide.

In the Fixyfier App

Fixyfier is built to work with the keyboard alone and with the screen readers built into or commonly used on Windows, such as Narrator and NVDA. Every button, switch, card and box has a name a screen reader can read, and the end of a task and each notification are announced as they happen. The Accessibility button next to the Language selector opens one panel with these options:

• Read Aloud speaks what the keyboard or pointer is on, in the app's language, using the voices installed in Windows. It needs no internet connection and stays quiet while a screen reader is running.
• Contrast: Standard, High Contrast Dark or High Contrast Light. Windows' own contrast themes are followed automatically.
• Colors and color vision: low saturation, high saturation or monochrome, and status colors that stay distinguishable for red-green and blue-yellow color blindness. Status dots also get shapes, so color is never the only signal.
• Text: the whole window can be enlarged up to 200%, or follow Windows' text size, with an easy-to-read font and wider text spacing.
• Reading guide, as a line under the pointer or a mask around it.
• Reduce Motion stops animations, and turns on by itself when Windows' animation effects are off.
• Stronger focus ring, a thicker frame around whatever the keyboard is on.

Search also works by voice, using Windows' offline speech recognition, so nothing you say leaves your PC. Need Help? on every screen, opened with F1 or Ctrl + /, explains that screen in plain words, and Help can read any topic aloud.

Standards

The goal for fixyfier.com is the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA. The site is partially conformant: most of it meets the guidelines, but not every part has been confirmed to, and the known exceptions are listed below.

Known Limitations

• Advertisements are supplied by Google and other third parties, and their accessibility is outside this site's control.
• Machine translations can contain mistakes, and screen readers may announce translated pages with the wrong pronunciation.
• Some older images may not yet have complete text descriptions. They are being reviewed as pages are updated.

Compatibility

fixyfier.com is designed for current versions of Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox and Safari, together with the screen readers and magnifiers that run with them. It relies on HTML, CSS and JavaScript. The Fixyfier app runs on Windows 10 and Windows 11.

How Accessibility Is Checked

Accessibility is reviewed by self-assessment, not by an outside auditor: pages and app screens are checked with the keyboard alone, with Windows' screen reader, contrast themes and text size, and with automated checking tools. Problems found this way, or reported by visitors, are fixed as they are found.
